Adele

I. Love. Adele. The first time I heard her voice, I fell in love. I had never heard music quite like hers, so beautiful and soulful. She truly has one of the best voices in music today, if not THE best. All of her songs are amazing and filled with great lyrics. It’s hard to choose a favorite song because I love each and every one of them.

Some of the videos posted below are from her live concert DVD “Adele: Live at The Royal Albert Hall” and her voice is better than ever. I love when singers sound better live than they do on their albums because it shows that they have actual talent and are true artists. This is exactly what Adele is- a pure and genuine vocalist.

My Cousin Vinny

Whenever someone asks me what my favorite movie is, my response is always My Cousin Vinny. Starring Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei, this film is a classic in my household. I can’t even imagine how many times this movie has been quoted in my house. There have been countless times where my family’s dinner conversations consisted solely of My Cousin Vinny quotes. I’m serious, this happens all the time. It’s just one of those films that every scene is hilarious and better than the one before. I’ve seen this movie so many times, yet any time it is on television, I have to watch it. It’s a great movie to watch when you want to laugh and it truly never gets old.

I narrowed down my favorite quotes to just a few, but I’m serious when I say that every line from the movie is worth quoting.

Vinny: You stick out like a sore thumb around here. Mona Lisa: Me? What about you? Vinny: I fit in better than you. At least I’m wearing cowboy boots. Mona Lisa: Yeah, you blend.

Grey’s Anatomy

I’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy since it started in 2005. There is something about this medical drama that always seems to draw my attention. As the seasons have gone on, the story lines have become increasingly dramatic, albeit sometimes ridiculous, and I keep coming back for more. I think the thing that I love most about this show is the writing. I love the mix of serious and witty dialogue that a lot of other dramas just do not feature. But my true adoration of the show is the narration at the beginning (and sometimes the end) of each episode. The narration is not entirely specific to the show itself or the characters, like other shows such as How I Met Your Mother or Sex and The City. The narration is there to provide the audience with something to think about before the episode starts. It generally sets up each episode and is usually inspirational and uplifting. It is a great way to start off the show each week and gives the audience something to think about passed the events of the episode.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the show, both the narration and dialogue.

Ingrid Michaelson

      

One of my favorite artists is Ingrid Michaelson. I recently saw her in concert and she puts on one hell of a show. She’s funny and charming and effortlessly adorable. She interacts with her audience in a way that most artists do not. She really connects to her fans and knows what they want to hear. To top it all off, she can ACTUALLY sing and play music. She truly has the voice of an angel. Don’t you hate it when you go to concert and the artist cannot sing live? It’s always such a disappointment.  With Ingrid, however, you get your money’s worth.

What I love most about her music is the lyrics to her songs.  They are all so honest and filled with emotion. When I think of a true songwriter, I think of Ingrid Michaelson.

Mean Girls

It is only fair that I start my blog off with the movie that I catch myself quoting the most. That, of course, is Mean Girls. I pride myself in the fact that I can quote this movie from start to finish. It’s almost impossible for other people to watch it with me because they would rather hear the actors talk instead of me screaming the lines at the screen (crazy, I know).

I’ve been quoting this film since it came out in 2004. I don’t know how she did it, but Tina Fey, the screenwriter of the film (and all around genius), was able to write a script that provides the world with endless amounts of lines to use in their daily lives. The movie is a somewhat realistic, although exaggerated, depiction of every high-schooler’s life. I think this is why it’s dialogue can be quoted in any situation. Yes, I do mean ANY situation- happy, sad, funny or serious- the perfect quote is out there!
